1. What is Functional Medicine?

Briefly, Functional Medicine (FM) is a patient-centered approach to medicine assessing and addressing the underlying causes of symptoms and disease states to treat their root causes by focusing on prevention and restoration of health through modifiable lifestyle factors such as nutrition, diet, exercise, stress-management, and sleep uniquely integrating traditional Western medicine with alternative practices.

2. What is a Functional Medicine Health Coach?

A Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach (FMCHC) is certified by the Functional Medicine Coaching Academy (FMCA) to guide, educate, support, and empower clients to live a life of optimal wellness by utilizing core coaching skills along with a foundational knowledge of Functional Medicine, nutrition concepts, positive psychology, and mind-body practices.

3. What is my role as a client?

With my guidance and support, your role is to identify your needs and goals, and create and execute a plan for your optimal health and wellness. It is your life – you are in charge. I support and empower you to integrate and sustain the beneficial long-term health changes you decide to make.

4. Will I be prescribed a diet or supplements?

No. It is outside a coach’s scope of practice to prescribe anything. Coaches do not diagnose conditions nor prescribe any treatments, medical or psychological.
